We have job opportunities for front-of-house support staff working in our new library and archive research centre - Search Engine (for further information please see http://www.nrm.org.uk/research/searchengine.asp)
Search Engine Visitor Services Assistants
£7.00 per hour
Minimum of 21 hours per week plus the opportunity to work additional hours.
12 month fixed term contract with possible extension
We are looking to recruit a team of friendly, approachable and outgoing Visitor Services Assistants as the front-of-house team for the NRM's new £4m open-access library & archive - Search Engine.
Working under the supervision of our curatorial staff, you will carry out a wide variety of customer service tasks, including welcoming library & archive users, showing them how to use Search Engine to find out the answers to their questions, supervising the research rooms, and staffing the reception and reader registration desk. Your customer care skills will be crucial in establishing a positive image for Search Engine and thus helping to encourage repeat visits.
Ideally you will have work experience involving regular face-to-face contact with the public, but more important are excellent listening and verbal communications skills, the ability to work calmly and courteously under pressure, and the ability to learn and follow formal structured procedures. You do not have to know anything about railway history, but an interest in the work of the NRM, and of museums, libraries and archives generally, would be an advantage.
The NRM opens seven days a week, 362 days a year, and so this post will involve regular weekend and bank holiday working on a rota basis.
In return we can offer membership to our pension, health and dental care schemes along with 22 days (pro rata) holiday.
Interested? Please contact Sarah Wilson on 01904 686249 or email [log in to unmask] for an application pack.
Closing date for return of completed application forms is Wednesday 31st October 2007. An assessment day will be held on Thursday 8th November 2007.
Unfortunately we are unable to contact unsuccessful candidates.
