We would like to inform you about a new initiative, the EQUATOR Network
project, that seeks to improve the quality of health research reporting.
The EQUATOR (Enhancing the QUAlity and Transparency Of health Research)
plans to become a recognised global centre providing resources and training
relating to the reporting of health research and assisting in the
development, dissemination and implementation of reporting guidelines.
We have recently launched our web based resource centre that provides a
collection of reporting guidelines (http://www.equator-network.org/). In
near future we will also offer relevant training for journal editors, peer
reviewers and researchers (authors). The initiative is being led by the
international steering group (D. Altman, D. Moher, K. Schulz, J. Hoey) with
great input from other reporting guidelines development teams, journal
editors, information specialists, research funders and other individuals
interested in research reporting.
We believe our website will be of great benefit to everyone involved in
writing and publishing health research. Clear and transparent reporting not
only facilitates the appraisal of research quality and relevance but also
improves the ability to find the requested information. Please link to the
EQUATOR site from your website to promote the use of our resources and
circulate this message widely.
We would also like to hear from individuals planning to embark on the
development of new reporting guidelines or about any projects relating to
the reporting of health research.
Our resources are freely available and will be updated frequently. Initial
funding for our project was provided by the UK NHS National Knowledge
Service. However, in order to succeed in our effort and make any meaningful
impact on the improvement of the quality of research reports we need to
secure further sustainable funding. We will be immensely grateful for any
sponsorship or useful contacts leading to a financial support.
