Dear members of ESTS and STS,
You may remember that earlier this year De Montfort University and particularly the Centre for Textual Scholarship tried to appoint a Professor of Textual Studies. The search failed, unfortunately.
This is to alert you to the fact that De Montfort is planning to advertise a Chair in English in the near future. Though the field is to be open, there is no reason to believe that a textual scholar could not beat out whatever the rest of the scholarly world can put up by way of competition. I believe the CTS at DMU is a very good reason a textual scholar would be interested.
I do not know when the ad will go out, but I will send a second alert when it does go out. Some of you might be surprised by the quick turn around that the posting will demand. That is why I'm bringing this future possibility to your attention now. Once the ad is posted, it might be that the application deadline will be as soon as two weeks later. So, please be thinking about it in advance and do not hesitate to contact me beforehand if you would like to ask questions about the CTS or DMU.
I might just take this opportunity to announce that I will be stepping down as director of the CTS at the end of December and will have a part-time role at DMU over the next two years before riding into the sunset.
Best wishes,
Peter Shillingsburg
