Apologies for the strange format of my previous email....it was copied from another email account and seems to have a mind of its own! I hope you are able to read it.

Dear all, In the library at London College of Communication, we are attempting torevise our procedure for processing and issuing books with accompanyingdiscs, such as computing books. At present, we do not tag the discs, butkeep them behind the desk and issue them when necessary. However, we nowhave a growing collection of around 2500 discs and the procedure islabourious and time-consuming with regards to the processing of each bookand the accompanying disc, as well as the time is takes to locate the discfrom behind the desk. We would like to keep the discs in the book, but we have issues with the 3M self-check machines, which have problems de-tagging both the book and the disc together. We have considered a few possible solutions and the best we could come up with is putting the untagged discs back in the books, so as not to create problems at the security gate. There is generally very little 'value' in the discs, but obviously we hope they don't all get lost somewhere along the way. I would like to know if anyone else has experienced similar issues with self-check machines and what you do in this situation. Also, does anyoneknow if dummy security tags exist and/or the manufacturer of some good discpockets for inside the book (preferably with flaps which will hold the discsecurely). If anyone else has any solutions or could offer some advice, I would bemost grateful. Kind regards,Zoe ForsterAssistant Librarian - Collection DevelopmentLondon College of CommunicationUniversity of the Arts London
