[EMS-NEWS]
Dear All
The questionably titled Goldsmiths real-time film and experimental
cinema lunchtime sessions, "Mash-Up Friday" has officially begun. All
students (but especially music students) are encouraged to attend.
These sessions, curated by Phil Hallett, head of Sonic Arts Network,
and Dr. Mick Grierson, AHRC Fellow in the Creative and Performing
Arts, will be continuing as follows:
The time:
1.00 pm every friday (lunchtime - we finish at 2.00pm)
The place:
The Small Hall Cinema, Room 185
The Programme
2nd November - Stan Brakhage. Music films without sound.
A selection of some of Stan Brakhage's finest films from his late
period. Seen by many as America's finest film maker, he not only
inspired the title sequence to the movie 'Se7en' (1995), but also the
character 'Stan' in 'Southpark'.
9th November - Michael Snow - WAVELENGTH.
Not for the faint of heart, one of Steve Reich's favourite films, and
a pivotal moment in the the development of all cinema, Wavelength is a
45 minute journey through sound and vision in the most unexpected of
ways. Those interested in process based art, put your money where your
mouth is. Here it comes.
16th November - Beach Singularity Live Remix.
The 1977 Wishart piece gets the live mashup treatment. Musicians using
Michael Casey's Soundspotter will remix their 2007 Sonic Arts Network
Beach Singularity performance. Sure to be a hectic and blissful
experience.
23rd November - In Absentia - Stockhausen and the Brothers Quay.
A truly marvellous film from the giants of animation, featuring an
Aphex Twin destroying soundtrack by the Master. Oh yes.
30th November - Matthew Bate - What the Future Sounded Like.
Featuring one of the few musicians to produce an interesting Dr. Who
arrangement, Tristram Carey, this documentary offers some keen
insights into the development electronic music.
7th December - CHRISTMAS SPECIAL - PASSION OF THE CHRIST Vs. ROBOCOP -
Live cinema Mash-up by Dr. Mick Grierson.
Mash-up Friday Concludes with our saviour battling it out with a guy
in a dress wearing sandles. Not to be missed
Bring your own popcorn.
