'Unspoken Interactions': exploring the role of
emotions, interactions and embodied knowledge in
practice-based subjects, Symposium 10th December 2007
Last call for paper presentations and workshop
contributions - Deadline Monday October 1st
This one day national symposium will disseminate
research into the unspoken aspects of learning in
practice-based subject areas. It will
particularly build on the work of University of
the Arts London visiting research fellow, Dr Noam Austerlitz.
Contributions
The focus of the symposium is on the construction
and creation of shared knowledge relating to
unspoken interactions in learning contexts. We
are looking for contributions that are based on
research or academic practice in any disciplines
with a practice-based element in teaching and
learning. For example: art and design, nursing and medicine, social work.
Contributions can be in the form of a paper,
workshop or panel papers, which address one or more of the following themes.
· Social interactions in learning environments,
particularly student tutor interactions
· The role of emotions in learning situations
· Maximising affectivity in learning – addressing
the emotions as a positive motivator for learning
· Engagement with the artefact in learning
· Embodiment – tactility, movement, gesture and their role in learning
· The role of the senses in practice based-learning
Criteria for submissions
An international panel will evaluate the
proposals and decisions will be based on the
construction of an informative and participatory
programme for the symposium that addresses the
issues identified above. In selecting
contributions the panel will consider each
category. Please see attached criteria outline
for full details and submission guidelines.
A special issue of the journal Art Design and
Communication in Higher Education entitled,
'Unspoken Interactions': exploring emotions and
social interactions in art, design and
communication in higher education will also be
guest edited by the organisers of this Symposium.
The closing date for submissions for the special
issue is December 14th 2007. Editors from other
journals will also be present at the Symposium.
