POSITION SUMMARY:
As a member of the Biostatistics Management team, the Director of
Biostatistics fills an important role in the planning and execution of
departmental activities. This individual will be responsible for managing
staff, assigning and monitoring workload, tracking development milestones,
and compiling productivity metrics for deliverables. This position also
provides support to Business Development through preparation of Bid
proposals and participation in client meetings. Additionally, the Director
plays a hands-on role by serving as a core team member for larger
projects. Working in a supervisory capacity, the Director coaches junior
staff, guides the technical evolution of departmental capabilities, and
reviews deliverables for timeliness, accuracy, and compliance with project
specifications.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
Develops, manages, and motivates, a team of Biostatisticians/programmers
to meet current and future project assignments
Reviews proposals from Business Development and provides Biostatistical
advice as well as cost and resource estimates.
Reviews project proposals with respect to departmental responsibilities
including development of statistical analysis plan; creating tables,
listings, and graphs; sample size estimation; randomization schedules;
statistical modeling and other relevant tasks
Serves on corporate committees and/or project teams as appropriate and
works on internal projects
Ensures that Biostatistics personnel have the necessary training and
resources to perform their assigned responsibilities
Ensures that staff have a detailed understanding of assigned projects,
including: scope, objectives, timeline and specific tasks
Acts as project manager for stand-alone work, and for data management and
biostatistics projects, and works with members of the project team
Serves as a core team member for projects comprising a program.
Supervises the initiation, planning, and execution of all departmental
tasks awarded by contract
Monitors and projects the operational and financial status of departmental
responsibilities awarded by contract
Coordinates detailed initiation, planning, and execution of biostatistical
activities with the project manager and core team members from other
departments.
Creates and monitors plans for assigned studies and assists the project
manager in integrating the biostatistics portion with the overall project plan
All other projects as assigned
EDUCATION/SKILL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Advanced degree from accredited college or university, in statistics or
closely related field
Good communication skills (written and oral)
Ability to effectively communicate with others on the project team and in
the department; strong interpersonal communication skills
Detail oriented, well organized
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
Minimum seven years experience (or five years plus Ph.D.) in
pharmaceutical development and working knowledge of SAS for statistical
analysis
Demonstrated knowledge of design of clinical trials and regulatory
requirements
Management or supervisory experience
