There is real depth of feeling among us regarding this issue and I know that many of us would take some kind of action if we knew what action to take and who to take it to. We need some kind of political voice who is on the side of the nurses and not on the side of penny-pinching bureaucrats! When Mrs. Thatcher turned the NHS into a market economy I believe she sounded the death knell to the NHS and we are in real danger of becoming like America, with those who can pay for treatment having the best care while those who can't afford it having to do without or going abroad for treatment. What can we do to stop this from happening?
Sorry, I know this may not be the most appropriate forum, but we are losing good nurses on the back of it and I, for one, have become truly disillusioned with nursing in the UK.

OK I'm a dinosaur!! However, I have said for a long time now (to anybody who
would listen) that I feel that the death of the nursing profession in the UK
will be at the hands of the NMC and the RCN..............
If the government had listened years ago to the 'old and bold' grass roots
nurses (pre-Project 2000) rather than the succession of GMC, UKCC and NMC
politically correct policies the NHS would not be in the mess it is in today
with MRSA, C.Dificile etc. We nursed our patients, paperwork came second,
and academic achievement in the profession knew its place. Because of this
our patients were cared for, had a much less incidence of infection, were
better fed, and probably recovered quicker..........ALSO WE WASHED OUR HANDS
AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY!!.
OK... I've now fallen off my soap box....... back to what passes for
normality.
Bob

Must be something in the air today - still, if we cant vent & rant between
ourselves who else will listen? My partner just looks skywards when I start
top talk about anything to do with how nurses are 'abused' by the
government!

It's about time we stood up to the NMC,
And reminded them that they are supposed to work for us,
Rather that creating barriers in the name of 'protecting the public'.
Sorry - I will stop now, in Soap Box Mode Today,
