I have a student who is trying to identify modern duck sternums (sterna?)
from bald eagle roost sites. For some reason, these are the most common
skeletal element. I remember many decades ago seeing publications (maybe
doctoral theses) from Europe (maybe Germany) that concerned diagnostic
characters of waterfowl skeletons.
Does anyone have a reference to identifying ducks based on the sternum
morphology?
Thanks!
Jon
