As I was finalising the talk I am giving the Kipling Society tomorrow on
RK and Conan Doyle, a message came in this morning from a Conan Doyle list
to which I subscribe.
It says that Stewart Murray's book Rudyard Kipling in Vermont states that
RK wrote The Mother Lodge in a day while Conan Doyle was visiting him in
Brattleboro in 1894 (and it asks for further information).
This is a new one on me. I don't have this book, so would appreciate it if
anyone can give me the reference (though I doubt if it says much more).
Rather more importantly, is there any hard information on how/when The
Mother Lodge was written?
with thanks
Andrew Lycett
