Tina, Tim, and others,
There is no accreditation scheme for BIP 0008. At least, there is no
such process that is independently certified.
You can hire an external consultant to conduct a review, based probably
on BIP 0009 - and many do. Alan Shipman (cited in previous posts) is
one such, and he brings to this the expertise that comes with being the
lead author of BIP 0008 and its predecessors. See below for the
implications of such expertise.
No external consultant can formally accredit the process, as there is no
accreditation scheme. The best they can do is to provide a professional
opinion on your level of compliance, usually based on using the BIP 0009
checklist.
Alternatively you, or your internal audit function, or anyone really,
can conduct a review based on BIP 0009.
The weight of the opinion offered by the reviewer will, I presume, be
affected by the expertise and experience of the reviewer. If you use an
external you can find someone who knows the standard well, is very
familiar with the checklist plus the issues it raises, and knows what to
look for.

Subject: BIP008 - legal admissibility
Dear all,
I would be grateful for some clarification on the above. We have a
department who have decided to scan reccords with the aim of disposing
of the orginals, we have purchased the toolkit and have set up process
and procedures etc. However my question is can the department dispose
of originals if they haven't been through any accreditation process (I
don't suggest that they do) ????
