I think we are often guilty of not relying enough on our own abilities
and too frequently turn to outside influences to confirm that what we
have done was ok. We often have better internal skills than you can
purchase on the outside.
We have recently fully implemented an EDRM system in HR (Trim if anyone
is interested). Part of the remit was of course to reduce the amount of
paper storage. This was achieved by selected backfile scanning and by
scanning in the post at source. The scanning was done but there was a
continued reluctance to get rid of the paper, "but we might need it".
So we decided to use BIP0008 workbook. We looked at the scanning
processes, did a risk analysis and produced a risk register to highlight
where changes were needed. The workbook was relatively easy to use. We
then handed this over to our legal department asking them the question,
can we now get rid of the paper? The answer was, eventually, yes. They
considered self assessment using the workbook was sufficient.
This meant we could destroy the contents of 30 6ft by 3ft cabinet
clearing huge amounts of floor space.
I think the point is that you don't need outside accreditation, you can
trust your own people.

Subject: BIP008 - legal admissibility
Dear all,
I would be grateful for some clarification on the above. We have a
department who have decided to scan reccords with the aim of disposing
of the orginals, we have purchased the toolkit and have set up process
and procedures etc. However my question is can the department dispose
of originals if they haven't been through any accreditation process (I
don't suggest that they do) ????
