Robert Fisk is one of the best foreign coespondent journalists I read. His
advice, years ago to buddng journalists, was always to carry history books
with you to read, rather than instantly be embedded in media hype. How right
he is!
As ever, history - All History - is the way forward.

In fact, although a tyrant of the worst kind, Saddam was trying to
uncover Babylon, & re-construct it (to visit it, as I did in 1986, when
he was a US ally, was to enter ancient history, it felt like).
