Paper Submission Deadline: 31 October

Operational Research Society
4th Simulation Workshop (SW08)

Held in cooperation with:
The Association for Computing Machinery's Special Interest Group for
Simulation (ACM SIGSIM)
The INFORMS Simulation Society
The Society for Modeling and Simulation International (SCS)

1-2 April 2008
Worcestershire, England

The biennial Operational Research Society Simulation Workshop brings
together practitioners and academics working in the field of
discrete-event simulation. It provides an opportunity to exchange ideas
on the current and future state-of-the-art in simulation and modelling.
At SW08 we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of KD Tocher*s
major contributions to the field of simulation.

Location

The Abbey Hotel Golf and Country Club is situated in Worcestershire,
England on a lovely 175-acre estate that once belonged to the now ruined
local abbey. It provides an excellent standard of accommodation and
conference venue. There are also leisure facilities and a championship
standard Golf Course.

The hotel is near to Birmingham, which has excellent links through the
International Airport and railway services. London is only 1.5 hours
away.

Local attractions include Stratford-upon-Avon (Shakespeare*s
birthplace) and Warwick*s Medieval Castle.

The Programme

The workshop will include plenary sessions, special focus streams,
simulation practice sessions and PhD posters. Contributions to the
technical programme are sought in the following areas, although papers
in any area of discrete-event simulation will be considered.

Simulation Methodology
*	Component based simulation
*	Collaboration methods
*	Distributed simulation
*	Web based simulation
*	Simulation and the grid
*	Simulation and artificial intelligence
*	Simulation software
*	Simulation standards
*	Human performance modelling

Simulation in Practice
*	Simulation in manufacturing
*	Simulation in services
*	Simulation in defence
*	Simulation in health
*	Simulation in semiconductor industry
*	Simulation practice
*	Simulation education

Simulation Modelling and Analysis
*	Conceptual modelling
*	Verification and validation
*	Design and analysis of simulation experiments

All submissions will be peer reviewed. Accepted papers will be
published in the conference proceedings and will be presented at the
conference. Presentations will be given 30 minutes including time for
questions.

The Simulation Practice Stream provides an opportunity to submit a
shorter paper (3 to 4 pages). These papers should either describe a
novel application of simulation or provide some insight into how the use
of simulation might be improved. Contributions from simulation
practitioners are particularly encouraged.

PhD Posters (1-3 pages) are included in the conference proceedings and
displayed during the conference.

Timetable and Deadlines

31 October 2007: Submit electronically contributed papers not
previously published or presented. The submission form and submission
instructions can be found at www.theorsociety.com (under the conferences
section). Each submission must be a 4 to 10 page paper (3 to 4 pages
for the Simulation Practice Stream), including an abstract of less than
150 words. Submission implies that an author will attend the workshop
to present the paper, and all clearance required for publication of the
paper will be obtained by 15 February, 2008.
4 January 2008: Contributors will be notified whether or not their
paper has been accepted.
15 February 2008: Authors provide the final manuscript for inclusion in
the conference proceedings. These should be in the format required for
the conference. See the author instructions at www.theorsociety.com
(under the conferences section).
15 February 2008: Submit PhD posters as 1 to 3 page papers. These
should be submitted using the electronic submission form for full
contributed papers. Submission implies that an author will attend the
conference. PhD posters will be published in the conference proceedings
and should follow the guidelines for conference papers.

If you require any further information on paper submission, please
contact the program chair: Dr Kathy Kotiadis (details below).
