Join DocHouse for a lively discussion about the potential, the problems, and
the future of documentary and drama.
Festival Introduction from Elizabeth Wood – Director of DocHouse
This Festival Began with a question. Why are so many documentary makers
turning to drama, and fiction directors to fact? Drama documentary?
Docudrama? Factual drama?
In the current atmosphere of sensitivity to distortion in factual
television, it is timely for CROSSING THE LINE to investigate these hybrid
forms in all their diversity and in unprecedented depth.
Our intention in putting together this programme is to hear directly from
the makers and create an arena for lively discussion about the potential,
the problems, and the future of documentary and drama.
The programme follows an overall arc:
Friday is an introduction to the range of issues and approaches.
Saturday addresses the ‘how and why’, focusing on docudrama and drama docs.
Sunday moves on to factual drama and fiction ‘based on reality’, returning
full circle to documentary in the final session.
Sessions (Cinema 1) are complemented by screenings (Cinema 3), providing the
option to see classic, historic and contemporary films.
We hope you’ll join us for this inspiring weekend.
