We have used Breakthrough and Preliminary levels for non natives.
You can enter a class for Preliminary in March and GCSE in the summer - the Prelim results come out in early may (3rd ish) - this allows pupils to decide whether to take the harder GCSE or pull out...
A huge advantage is that students can take the skills they can do - say writing Preliminary and Speaking breakthrough.
Anyone aiming at GCSE should be able to take the preliminary ASSET level
We like the exams!

Dear teachers,
I wonder if any of you have strong evidences, research and reasons for UK
non-native students to take the Asset languages Chinese rather than GCSE Chinese.
Much appreciated.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Sophia
