Dear Colleagues,
I'm a feature writer with CILIP's Library & Information Gazette.
I've been commissioned to do a piece examining the situation where some
libraries may be starting to recruit front line staff from a customer care
background (e.g. retailing) instead of people with library & information
qualifications or experience. The thinking behind this is that, although
they may lack library & information skills, their experience means that
they may nevertheless be better able to deal with library users.
I'd be very interested indeed to hear people's views on this - and
particularly to hear of any specific instances of this happening - with a
view to incorporating these findings into the article.
Scheduling on a fortnightly publication like Gazette is inevitably tight
and I will need to start writing the piece by no later than next Monday,
September 17. So anything you can let me have by then will be much
appreciated.
You can reply via the list if you wish - or if you prefer you can email me
off-list at [log in to unmask]
I look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes,
Tim Buckley Owen.
