An Introduction to MIMAS Bibliographic Services

A course providing an introduction to a range of MIMAS Bibliographic
Services will be taking place shortly in both London and Manchester.
Attendance on the course is completely FREE of charge.

Course content
This is an overview course providing a basic introduction to a range of
MIMAS bibliographic services. There will be a demonstration of the main
features of each service, followed by a hands-on session. This offers
the opportunity to get to grips with the basics of each service in an
unhurried situation, with service support staff available to answer
questions and provide assistance.
During the day the following services will be covered:
Archives Hub: FREE access to descriptions of archives held in over 140
UK universities and colleges. The archives cover a huge range of
subjects, and include the records of businesses, individuals and
families. The Archives Hub includes nearly 20,000 descriptions of
archive collections and also over 130,000 descriptions of individual
items within collections.

Copac: FREE access to the merged catalogues of many major research
libraries in the UK and Ireland. Copac includes the catalogues of all
the UK National Libraries, many major University libraries, as well as
other specialist collections. It gives access to details of a wide range
of materials, in all subject areas and in many languages, from early
manuscripts to the latest scientific reports or government publications.

ISI Web of Knowledge Service for UK Education: This course provides a
basic introduction to the Web of Knowledge (WoK) research platform that
helps you find, analyse and manage information in the sciences, social
sciences, arts and humanities. The course will focus on using the WoK
platform 'All Databases' search and Web of Science citation indexes. It
is intended to help new or novice users of the Web of Knowledge become
more proficient. This course does not cover the additional ISI products.

Zetoc gives access to the British Library's Electronic Table of Contents
(ETOC), a searchable database of over 20 million article titles from
over 20,000 of the most important research journals, as well as around
16,000 conference proceedings. Also includes an email alerting service
to enable users to receive notification of relevant new articles.

Who is the course for?
The course will be of interest to researchers, academics, librarians and
support staff within the Further Education and Higher Education
communities. Some experience of using a web browser will be useful for
the practical exercises.
Lunch:
