The School of Mathematics at The University of Western Australia is one of
the leading departments of mathematical sciences in Australia. The
statistics section has a high international ranking in research. It
delivers lectures in applied and theoretical statistics and probability to
a wide range of students. It also supplies statistical consulting
services to industry, universities and the general community through the
UWA Statistical Consulting Group.
At least one appointment will be in the area of financial mathematics and
statistics. This appointee is expected to take the lead in running and
developing our Master of Financial Mathematics in partnership with the UWA
Business School. At least two appointments will be in applied statistics,
where we have a growing commitment to research activity, a large role in
undergraduate statistical education for science students and an active
statistical consulting group. We also welcome applications in any area of
statistics and probability. All appointees are expected to be active in
research, measured broadly by academic publications, grant-funded research
projects and/or consulting activities. Supervision of probability or
statistics postgraduates and joint supervision of post-graduates from
across the University is expected. Collaboration with other research
organisations within Australia and overseas is valued.
