Dear All,
We would like to invite you to the second seminar in the
interdisciplinary series run by the Institute for Policy Studies in
Education, exploring the role of education in the social world. We are
continuing the series by interrogating 'the educated family' and this
seminar will focus on fractions of the middle classes and their
relationships to education and schooling. The seminar is open to
researchers, students, practitioners and policy makers. You are warmly
invited to join our discussion.
Speakers are: Bridget Byrne (University of Manchester): 'Not just class:
interactions between whiteness and middle classness in schooling
choice'. And Katya Williams & Uvanney Maylor (IPSE, London Metropolitan
University): ' 'I do think they think Black children are uneducable':
Black middle class parents’ accounts of managing their children’s
education.'
The seminar will take place on Wednesday 21st November from 2-4.30pm, in
Room GCG-09, in the Graduate Centre, Tower Building, 166-220 Holloway
Road, London Metropolitan University, London N7 8DB. The seminar is free
