Given the interconnectedness of the data model I don't really see how this
can ever be achieved. Basically you're asking for a complete copy of the
datamodel to be saved between each user operation which sould have major
performance issues, innit? Surely the way to go is to make sure that the
programs all have a regular & frequent (15 min?) backup enabled _by
default_ and that the backups rotate for a user specified (but say default
4) number of copies in a non-trampling and easily retrievable (and
documented) way. Hopefully the paths stuff you're doing for 1.1 will make
all this easier/more transparent.

DataShifter & formatConverter are important for the whole CCPN effort
(which is not just analysis) and is an area that certainly deserve some
more attention. As well as the means by which existing users go to
transfer data between projects, they are the route in for new users - we
need them to be slick & documented to the point where users do not feel
really comfortable using them. NB this needs detailed and constructive
feedback from the users reading this on what functionality is
broken/missing and to help with documentation for specific cases.
