***********************CALL FOR PARTICIPATION***********************
CHI 2008 Workshop: Collocated Social Practices Surrounding Photos
http://research.microsoft.com/~ast/chi/photo_workshop/
5th April, 2008, Florence, Italy
NEW submission deadline: 31st October, 2007
********************************************************************
Recent interest in how people interact with printed and digital photos
has begun to reveal the social nature of these practices and the
potential implications of this for designing supportive technologies.
This workshop aims to draw together (but is not limited to) the themes
of photowork, photo sharing and photo displays, allowing an exploration
of current research into the social basis of these activities. The
workshop will enable researchers and practitioners to:
- Share findings, insights and experiences to develop a sense of key
issues in the area
- Discuss how these findings might inform technology innovation and
inspire design
- Explore the methodological issues of understanding social practices in
photo use
- Foster new collaborations amongst researchers with similar interests
We hope to further disseminate the outcomes of this workshop by
collecting contributions for a special issue of a journal.
To participate please submit a 3 page (max) position paper outlining
your research experiences, findings or interests relevant to collocated
social practices surrounding photo use. Participants will be selected
with a view to providing a broad spectrum of interest across the themes.
This will be a one-day workshop. On the day, participants will present
their position papers (10 mins) in the morning, followed by an afternoon
of discussion of the key issues raised. Papers should conform to the HCI
Archive format (http://www.chi2008.org/formatting.html). To participate,
one author is required to register for both the workshop and one day of
CHI 2008.
Deadlines:
Position Papers due October 31st 2007 17:00 PDT.
Notification of acceptance by November 28th 2007.
