Dear all, please note and advertise (also attached):

Ilaria Favretto, Nina Fishman, Simonetta Agnello Hornby, Donald
Sassoon and Matthew Worley cordially invite you

      To

                  E A T for T O G L I A T T I !!

at The Vintry, Abchurch Yard, Sherborne Lane, London EC4 (tube: Bank)
on Friday 16th November 2007 from 7.0-10.0 p.m.

Professor Aldo Agosti has revised his definitive biography of Palmiro
Togliatti, and it has now been translated into English. It will be
published by I.B.Tauris in April 2008, with an introduction by Professor
Donald Sassoon. It will inaugurate the series Communist Lives, edited by
Dr. Matthew Worley.

To help defray the costs of translation and copy-editing in these difficult
times, we have organised a celebratory meal at a splendid gastro-pub,
cheek-by-jowl with Wren churches and the Bank of England.

In this atmospheric setting, which reminded Nina of an Antonioni film, we
will eat a buffet prepared by our friend, Enrico Sartor, chief cook at The
Vintry:

Serrano ham & artichokes
Bruschetta with wild mushrooms & taleggio
Roast pumpkin, parmesan and sage risotto
Slow cooked pork belly with canellini beans
Barbequed lamb marinated in thyme, lemon & black olives, roast veg.
Roast cod with rosemary and olive oil, served with peperonata
Grilled Mediterranean prawns with tomato & fennel confit
Pears, plums and autumn berries in mulled wine with clotted cream
Mascarpone & coffee tiramisu.

We will also toast the success of this important book. There is no
biography of Togliatti published in English, French or German, and he
therefore remains a mystery to non-Italian speaking scholars. Agosti has
used Comintern and PCI archives to produce the most up-to-date and
academically significant of the biographies available in Italian.

Included in the price of your meal (£55.00) is a copy of Togliatti, which
we will send to you when it is published in April. (You may prefer to pick
your reserved copy up at the launch of the book, when Agosti will autograph
it for you.) (The price of £55.00 does not include drinks, but premium
beers, wine from a special list, spirits and mineral water can be purchased
at the bar.)

Space is limited; please reserve your place by 20 October.
