Archives for London invites you to the next in its series of seminars,
to be held on 4 October at Freemasons’ Hall, Covent Garden
Looking for Equiano in London’s Archives
This month we welcome Arthur Torrington OBE for an Archives Awareness
Campaign 'Freedom' Special: Arthur is co-founder of The Equiano Society.
He will outline the work of this organisation which serves to promote
African and Caribbean heritage and foster better community relations in
the UK by publicising the life and work of Olaudah Equiano, the
Eighteenth Century former slave and abolitionist. In particular, Arthur
will provide details of the HLF funded exhibition in partnership with
the Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery which opens on 29 September
2007.
You will find this seminar useful if:
- you are a user interested in research using slavery-related records;
- you are working on a community or HLF funded project and would like
to share your experiences;
- you are generally interested in the work of The Equiano Society and
would like to know more.
Doors will open at 5.30pm and the talk will start at 6pm. The seminar
is an open forum and following the talk attendees are welcome to ask
questions, exchange news, and discuss matters of interest. Refreshments
will be provided.
Please let Nicola Avery know if you are coming - e-mail her on:
