Project Officer, Sutherland Papers Project
Summary:
This post is a key part of the Sutherland Papers Project Team. The team is
working to make this archive collection, recently saved for Staffordshire
and the Nation, more accessible to the public. You will play a dual role
to supervise and co-ordinate volunteer activity within the project and to
provide transcriptions of documents which support the online
interpretation of one of the most outstanding archive collections in the
UK.
Volunteers will be providing indexes to documents to help family
historians to find information about the Sutherland Papers more easily.
They will also be providing some transcripts of documents to help to
interpret the collection for a wide range of audiences. Your role will be
to supervise this volunteer activity, check the accuracy of transcription
work and ensure that all output is consistently presented to the web
content team. You will also be required to support the project through the
production of accurate transcriptions of selected documents yourself.
We are looking for an excellent team worker with good organisational,
communication and IT skills and preferably some experience in the
voluntary sector. You will also need to be able to demonstrate to us a
familiarity with 16th and 17th century handwriting.
We believe the post to be suitable for someone looking for experience of
archive work prior to undertaking the archive qualification.
The Sutherland Papers Project is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
