Hi Allan,
looks like a short eared form of Hordeum vulgare L. to me. Not prepared to go
into subtleties of 6- versus 4-row varieties!! That's certainly what they were
growing at Borg when we were there a couple of years ago. Small fields of mixed
peas and barley were also quite common in the area. Fascinating place (Borg, as
indeed the rest of the Lofotens) with reconstructed long-house, Viking style
boat (upon which you can become part of the oarsmen team if you so wish) and
various dyeing, carving, leather-working, pottery etc craft areas. Well worth a
visit if anyone is "up north".
J.
