(Full Time - 1 year fixed-term)
Closing date: 14th September 2007

Faculty of Environment
School of Earth and Environment
Institute for Atmospheric Science
Available for a fixed term of 1 year, to start before March 2008. You will
use an atmospheric chemistry-aerosol model to investigate the transformation
of pollutants exported from North America and transported towards Europe
through the North Atlantic troposphere. The focus will be on evaluation of
the model's representation of the evolution of the composition of
trans-Atlantic plumes, and on the use of statistical methods to quantify the
impact of model uncertainties on simulations of photochemistry and aerosol
processing.
You will have a good knowledge of atmospheric chemistry, an understanding of
running FORTRAN on UNIX/LINUX computer platforms and be willing to
collaborate with UK and international partners. You will need to demonstrate
a commitment to communicate results to a range of audiences. A PhD in a
relevant area of atmospheric science or chemistry, a track record of
relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals, and excellent communication
and interpersonal skills, (including written) are required for this post.
Salary will be at University Grade 6 level (£22,332 - £26,666 p.a. effective
from 1 August 2007) dependent on qualifications and experience. It is
likely that an appointment will be made below £25,889 p.a. since there are
funding limitations which dictate the level at which the appointment can
start.
