STATISTICIAN

The Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH), part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), is the UK's Centre of Excellence for research in the terrestrial and freshwater environmental sciences.
We are seeking an experienced statistician to work within our Biodiversity Science Programme at the CEH headquarters in Wallingford. The work of the biodiversity sections links population, molecular and community ecology, and the patterns and processes of biodiversity change, including biological invasions, pollution, disease, land use and climate change. You will collaborate and support the scientists in the biodiversity sections. The primary role will be the design of ecological experiments, surveys and monitoring studies and statistical analysis of ecological data including long term data sets. This will involve participation in CEH research projects and customer contracts.
The successful candidate will be expected to have a statistical qualification plus experience and expertise in a range of application of statistical methods (analysis of variance, regression, generalized linear models, multivariate analysis, mixed models, time-series, spatial statistics). You will have the ability and desire to interact with scientists and to communicate statistical ideas clearly and effectively. You will also have the ability to develop novel techniques, you will possess strong communication, team working and decision making skills along with excellent time management skills.
The salary is £29,360 progressing to £34,630 per annum. In addition NERC offer a pension scheme, 30 days' annual leave and 10½ days' public and privilege holiday.
