Dear all,
Guide Dogs for the Blind Association would like your help with some
suggestions of case studies for street development projects. Following
our previous email on our shared surface project (please see attached)
we are in the process of reviewing changes to the areas used for the
focus groups last year and in addition would like to find a few extra
case studies. Ideally around 8 to 10 case studies with a geographic
spread. If you know of a scheme in your area which would make a good
case study to publicise please let us know.
The case studies would be a mix of -
- areas which have introduced shared surfaces with poor practice in the
last year or so (i.e. without provision for blind and partially sighted
people)
- areas showing good practice which have been developed with good
provision for blind and partially sighted people in the last year or so
(these may be 'shared space' areas but not used full shared surfaces or
areas where they have enhanced streets without using shared space)
- good practice in consultation - areas where consultation has been
effectively carried out and the requirements of blind and partially
sighted people incorporated in the design.
- areas which considered shared surfaces but decided not to proceed with
this.
- areas where recent street enhancement without shared surface or with
good demarcation
Some case studies may combine more than one of the above.
Please could you send just brief details of any suggestions for case
studies - we can get back in touch later for any additional information.
Please could you circulate this email to access officers in your area
and anyone else who may be able to help. My contact details are:
