Post-doc / experienced researcher post in neuroimaging (fMRI / morphometry)
We are inviting applications for a Marie Curie Fellowship for Experienced
Researcher (post-doctoral) in neuroimaging (fMRI / MR morphometry) at the
Department of Psychiatry, University of Jena, Germany
The post is part of EUTwinsS, the European Twin Study Network on Schizophrenia,
an EU-funded Research Training Network under FP6.
Duration: The post is funded initially for 1,5 years with an option for
subsequent extension (subject to approval).
Deadline: Applications will be considered until the post is filled.
Salary: Marie Curie rates for experienced researcher, consisting of a basic
salary of 48.786 € per year, plus a mobility allowance of 6.228 € per year
(single applicant) or 9.964 € per year (married applicant). Note that full
social security coverage (incl. employer's contribution) will have to be
deducted. An additional annual travel allowance, and (if applicable) a single
career exploratory award are also included in the salary package.
Profile: We are seeking highly motivated applicants with a doctoral degree in
either a life science area, psychology, computer science, or medicine or at
least four years (max. ten years) of research experience. The post is also
suitable for researchers with a non-neuroscience degree, who wish to enter this
area of research. Essential to this post are good communication skills and an
interest in multidisciplinary teamwork. Previous imaging experience, relevant
computing skills (esp. SPM or related imaging software) including programming
in Matlab or C+, and sound statistical knowledge are highly desirable.
Job description: The successful applicant will work on a brain-imaging project
involving functional or structural data from twins with schizophrenia and
controls. The main aim will be to identify genetic contributions to activation
patterns and evaluation of these as potential endophenotypes for schizophrenia.
Two areas of concentration are offered: 1. Functional MRI in twins: setting up
cognitive paradigms for fMRI, running fMRI experiments with human subjects, and
analysing data to be prepared for publication. 2. Structural MRI / morphometry
in twins: Voxel-based morphometry (VBM) and analysis of gyrification and
cortical folding of the cortex will be used complementary to analyse patterns
of morphological differences in twin pairs with and without schizophrenia. Work
will include application and adaptation of software for such computations and
statistical analyses.
Eligibility criteria: This post is part of a Marie Curie action. Therefore, the
candidate should be either a national of an EU member or associated state
(excluding Germany), and should not have resided or worked in Germany for more
than 12 months during the last 3 years. Applications from other countries are
also welcome, but subject to an eligibility check (for more detailed
information, please see: http://ec.europa.eu/research/fp6/mariecurie-actions/)
The Friedrich-Schiller-University of Jena is an equal opportunities employer.
EUTwinsS seeks to increase the rate of female scientists, therefore women are
particularly encouraged to apply.
