Dear Chaham,
I am not sure exactly what you mean by "the relationship
between measures of the spatial configuration of buildings (...)
and the subjective judgements on spatial locations for privacy",
it does sound like an interesting study though, on an important
topic.
As for similar work, I've done quite a lot of work on how
privacy is established, suggested, or constructed through
spatial configuration, although my research has been on
libraries and department stores primarily. Contrary to what much
retail literature says, however, it proves on closer study that
creating private, secluded and (comparatively) little visited
spaces is a vital part of selling certain kinds of goods, even
in regular department stores (and even for fashion retail).
Most of my discussion of how privacy for (certain) customers is
created in the department store case can be found in my
dissertation
"Structuring Fashion: Department Stores as Situating Spatial
Practice"
published in april by AxlBooks (www.axlbooks.com - you could
also contact me). I never got around to spreading the
information of the dissertation on this list before, so I'm
taking the chance now.
