Dear Sarah, Dear All,
I have read with great interest the very informative discussion regarding
mentoring in Higher Education. Here at Nottingham University there is a
formal system in operation for undergraduate students, but nothing in place
for post-graduate students.
The mentoring network for undergraduates is e-mentoring and the address is

and the website address is www.nottingham.ac.uk/active-communities
Just to say, I have almost completed my second draft of my thesis focussing
on the theoretical underpinnings of the role of the mentor in ITT on a one
year PGCE course and so would be greatly interested if any colleague has any
news of up-to-date literature being presented to mentors on their one year
PGCE ITT courses.
I was doing an internet literature search this morning and found the
following information re teacher training at Stanford University where I
perceive the USA's rigidly top-down teacher training system has created a
disconnection between theory and practice:

Food for thought?
Best wishes
Rosalind
