Hi *,
To help improve the communication to the sites, the TCG site reps have
agreed to start posting short summaries of the TCG meetings here. There
was a meeting this past Wednesday:
http://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=16651
* Job Priorities : the "short term solution" (see the JPWG pages, doc by
Andrea Sciaba and Simone Campana) will be followed by the JPWG, further
work will wait until Christoph Witzig has completed a global survey and
analysis of authorization issues, first results of which are expected
first of next year. [ Tip : Christoph will be describing the process
and the input he got so far in Budapest, Tuesday morning, MWSG meeting ]
* Decommissioning LCG RB : the gLite WMS has passed the acceptance
criteria for widespread deployment, hence plans have started for the
phaseout of the LCG RB. There will be no SL4 port of this beast, at the
moment it is still supported in maintenance-only status. The project is
still collecting data on support needs, my own guess is that support
will be withdrawn in early 2008.
* Secure data management status : status report on issues related to
secure data management for e.g. biomedical applications. I am not an
expert on this stuff and had a hard time following the discussion.
* Service acceptance criteria : this is an initiative started by the
project management to try and collect criteria for what various services
have to do in order to be accepted by EGEE as "valid middleware". There
was some disagreement within the TCG as to what the actual goal of this
activity was. Deployment criteria (packaging, dependencies, etc) have
been drawn up by SA3 and are available. Application requirements tend
to be changing rapidly and are hard to capture. Service specifications
(interface definitions, syntax and semantics) are definitely needed. A
few people were 'volunteered' to write trial criteria documents for
services, discussion can continue based on these concrete examples.
* AOB there was a short discussion about glexec, mainly to clarify that
the project will make sure that the default deployment of glexec on
worker nodes, via RPMs or tarballs, if any, will be with the suid bit
turned OFF. The bit will only be turned on via configuration explicitly
indicating that user-switching is desired.
