Research positions
Enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals are sought to study key
enzymes of microbial pathogens. In particular to advance fundamental
understanding of biosynthesis and inhibition of trypanothione and
glycosylphosphatidylinositol biosynthesis in trypanosomatid
parasites. The positions are funded by a Wellcome Trust programme
grant and to be held in a world-class interdisciplinary centre.

Postdoctoral Research Assistants (3 posts) – LS/1906
Grade 7 (£26,666 - £32,796)
Postdoctoral Research Assistants are required to characterise the
structure-function relationships of important biosynthetic enzymes
essential in trypanosomatid parasites. Applicants are expected to
have experience in structural or molecular biology, biochemistry or
chemical crystallography. Experience in production of proteins in
eukaryotic systems would be particularly welcome.

Postdoctoral Research Assistant – LS/1907
Grade 7 (£26,666 - £32,796)
Postdoctoral Research Assistant who will prosecute inhibitor
discovery employing structure-based methods and high-throughput
screening against validated therapeutic targets from microbial
pathogens. Experience in assay development, computational chemistry
and molecular modelling, or crystallography would be beneficial.

RESEARCH Technician – LS/1908
Grade 5 (£18,165 - £21,050)
Responsible for protein production in support of high-throughput
chemical screening and structural biology. Applicants are expected
to be educated to a degree level in a science subject and should have
2-3 years relevant laboratory experience.

All posts are available for two years in the first instance. The
level of appointment is flexible and will depend on experience and
track record. For postdoctoral positions applicants are expected to
have, or to obtain shortly, a PhD in a relevant subject. Training,
as required will be provided in a supportive environment enabling
researchers to extend their skills and expertise. Career progression
is important and staff will be encouraged to participate in a wide
range of research, and in this the ability to work well in a team
will be critical.
The successful candidates will benefit from access to cutting edge
facilities in crystallography, biochemistry, cell biology, synthetic
and medicinal chemistry, parasitology, drug discovery, proteomic and
other core facilities. In addition to joining the Scottish Structural
Proteomics Facility, a highly successful cooperative with The
University of St. Andrews.
