Job Description:
The 1001 Inventions Exhibition
The exhibition was created by Foundation for Science, Technology and
Civilisation (FSTC) of Manchester as an educational attempt to enlighten
people as to the important role of Muslim Scientist and Scholars in creating
the modern world specifically in the period 600 to 1600 AD. Others involved
in the development of the exhibition include Muslim Heritage Consulting
(project managers), Haley Sharpe Design who were the design consultants, DJ
Willrich, Beacon Display, Science Projects and Betrix Industrial Models.
Detailed documents will be made available but the exhibition consists of
seven pods, each a rectangular box of approximately 2000mm high x 1800mm
long by 700mm deep. These pods break into three for travelling and have been
designed to be easily transported into venues by two workers. Along with the
pods are four interactive displays and associated graphics.
The Exhibition has had a successful run at 3 different venues in the UK and
is currently at Birminghams Thinktank museum until the 2nd September 2007.

26th May 2007 2nd Sep 2007 - Thinktank, Birmingham science museum
Planned for October 2007 for 3 month - Glasgow Science Centre
Scope
The following work will be required of the Tour Manager. This outlines the
main areas but is not designed to be an exhaustive list:
Three phases of work will be required:
PRE-TOUR:
1. Advise on logistics of running an exhibition tour, legal matters,
contracts, insurance etc.
2. Develop existing touring exhibition strategy using the contacts that have
already shown interest in the exhibition to test opinion, pricing etc for
the exhibition
3. Develop existing touring plan including required budgets, pricing,
partners required, timelines, risks and contingencies
4. Manage the signing of contracts with venues.
TOUR LOGISTICS
1. Arrange tour around the United Kingdom for 2008 and 2009. The approximate
time in any particular venue would be 3 months and would include work on the
launch at each venue
2. Use exhibition contract to bind venues to tour dates and conditions
3. Liase with venues, exhibition installers etc to ensure well-planned
delivery, install and de-rig with minimal disruption to venue
4. Day-to-day management of tour including logistics, budget, install,
de-rig etc.
5. Being first point of contact for the venues throughout the tour of the
exhibition
Liaison and reporting
1. Client liaison with Ahmed Salem during the Pre-tour stage
2. A minimum of one report per month to Ahmed Salem on progress, milestones,
issues, risks, budget and schedule
3. Possible liaison with Foundation for Science, Technology and Civilisation
as advised by Ahmed Salem
Required Skills:
Applicants should be able to demonstrate the following PERSONAL COMPETENCES:
A high standard of organisational skills
Good written and oral communication skills
Ability to be flexible and use own initiative
Clean driving license
Applicants should also be able to demonstrate that they have the following
essential KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTAINMENTS:
Some knowledge of science exhibitions
Ability to network effectively with a range of partners and clients, some
of whom will not be familiar with the subject
Proven experience of project management, administration and budgets.
Basic Word Processing and keyboard skills
Desirable but not essential:
Experience of science exhibitions
Marketing and P.R
Print production
