Dear Zooarchers
I'm looking at an early medieval assemblage from a site in Ireland and I have just recorded the bird bones, with Sheila Hamilton Dyer: we have two bones of nightjar (Caprimulgus europaeus) while the largest collection of bird bones from the site are of corncrake (Crex crex). Presumably they were targeted as source of food.
This is the first recorded instance of nightjar from Ireland - does anyone know if it has been found elsewhere in Britain? Bones of corncrake have been found on many sites in Ireland and Britain but does anyone know of any sites where if forms the main species?
Many thanks,
Emily
