I. Special Feature: New BRIDGE In Brief on Gender and Indicators
translated into French
===============================

The latest in our series of Gender and Development In Brief on Gender
and Indicators is now available in French online and in print copy
from BRIDGE. Gender-sensitive indicators and other measurements of
change are critical - for building the case for taking gender
(in)equality seriously, for enabling better planning and actions, and
for holding institutions accountable for their commitments on gender.
The In Brief newsletter has three short articles on the theme.
http://www.bridge.ids.ac.uk/docs/EnBref19_Indicators.pdf

The full Cutting Edge Pack on Gender and Indicators will soon be
available in French online and in print copy from BRIDGE.

This In Brief will also soon be available in Spanish online and in print copy.

II. Quick Guide: Gender and Disabilities
===============================

Disabled women are doubly discriminated against because of their
gender and of their disabilities. How can their rights be protected?
The following resources are a selection from over 20 new resources
added to the Siyanda database on gender and disabilities.

- A Health Handbook for Women with Disabilities, Maxwell, J., Watts
Belser, J. and David, D., February 2007
This handbook provides basic information to improve the health and
well-being of women with disabilities and to help those who assist
women with disabilities to provide good care.
http://www.siyanda.org/static/maxwell_handbook_disability.htm?em=0708&tag=QG

- Strengthening Women's Rights Organisations through Inclusion:
Lessons Learned from the Gender, Disability and Development Institute,

- Gendering the Draft Comprehensive and Integral International
Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights and Dignity
of Persons with Disabilities, Arnade, S. and Haefner. S., January 2006
Why and how should a gender perspective be introduced to the proposed
United Nations International Convention on the Protection and
Promotion of the Rights and Dignity of Persons with Disabilities?
http://www.siyanda.org/static/arnade_convention_disability.htm?em=0708&tag=QG

- On the Margins: Violence Against Women with Disabilities. Research
Report Written for the Centre for the Study of Violence and
Reconciliation, Naidu, E., Haffejee, S., Vetten, L. & Hargreaves, S.,
April 2005
South African women with disabilities are more vulnerable to violence
than non-disabled women, experience it in different and particular
ways, and receive inappropriate and inadequate support services from
local providers.
http://www.siyanda.org/static/naidu_margins_disability.htm?em=0708&tag=QG

- Reproductive Rights and Women with Disabilities: A Human Rights
Framework (in English, Spanish and Arabic), Centre for Reproductive
Rights, January 2002
