PROFESSOR OF GEOGRAPHY AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE

Monash University seeks to appoint an outstanding scholar to a professorship
in the School of Geography and Environmental Science. This person will have
a background in human geography with interests in human dimensions of
environmental change and sustainability. The school offers undergraduate
programs in physical and human geography, environmental science, GIS,
Australian Indigenous archaeology, and regional and urban planning within
the Faculties of Arts and Science.  It has a strong PhD program, as well as
coursework and research based Masters’ degrees in Environment and
Sustainability, International Development and Environmental Analysis, and
Corporate Environmental and Sustainability Management.  The school plays a
major role in the Monash Sustainability Institute, particularly in climate
and water initiatives. It maintains strong collaborations with other
university and industry-based groups (such as the National Urban Water
Governance Program, the Monash Institute for Regional Studies, Monash
Regional Australia Project, and the Australian Housing and Urban Research
Institute) and has extensive international linkages.  

The appointee will support and further enhance the school’s strong national
and international reputation in teaching and research, and act as head of
school on rotation.

The appointee will be expected to demonstrate: academic and professional
achievement appropriate to the rank of professor; active engagement in
obtaining competitive research grants and strong leadership in directing
funded research; an outstanding teaching record; administrative leadership
and excellent communication and organisational skills.

Appointment will be on a continuing basis.
 
Remuneration: professorial salary (currently) $A125,103 per annum, plus
generous superannuation. Relocation travel and removal allowances and salary
packaging are available.
