> A question: was Marinetti's Futurist Cookbook - a cookbook?
Thanks for pointing out the Rain Taxi interview, Anny!
As to Marinetti's "Futurist Cookbook" - it's mostly inedible. The salads and
entres are sometime composed of machine parts - elegant machine parts, of
course. Most attractive to artists and performers - when we reprinted the
book at Bedford Arts in the late 1980's - were the installations that
accompanied the different parts of each dinner. Open ceiling dining rooms in
order to better to hear the planes that were appointed to fly over the meal
to rhyme with and encourage the digestive systems of the guests. The
changing artificial views that filled the windows. The assigned music for
the different courses. The fashion required.
The book was de rigeur for performance and installation artists. What
astonished me was a call from the Book of the Month Club that ordered 4,000
copies as a Selection for x month. The Manhattan based liked the way the
book looked as displayed in store windows. I did not ask if she had actually
read it.
I will not talk about Marinetti's then growing fascist politics and why,
etc. I wonder if he and Pound ever met.
