Reassuring to hear you say this. Some friends / readers of mine didn't see
it. Saw only an obscure exaggerated metaphor. People can be very
intelligent and liberal-minded but only selectively attentive to news. And
something like this really makes one want to turn away. Doing research for
this poem (google Honor Killings and Honor Killings, UK), I had that rare
experience of horror and outrage bursting through stony layers of cynicism
and pessimism, which are themselves the impacted sediment of horror and
outrage.
As for "honor," it will remain a flatus vocis until it is attached to one
statement - I serve reason and humanity - rather than to any faith, tribe,
or custom.
