the production workflow - manuscript submission systems; file delivery
mechanisms (such as FTP); PDF and PDF-X; use of SGML and XML for online
products. A portion of the day will be dedicated to a 'clinic', where
delegates are invited to bring along specific problems for discussion.
Programme:
* Manuscript submission systems - overview
* File delivery protocols such as FTP
* Common typesetting systems
* XML/SGML and DTDs
* Preflighting software - what is it and who should do it?
* Common problems with PDFs
* Best practice - housekeeping; file naming; directory structures
* Standard image formats and their uses; resolutions for various
applications
* Delegate clinic for discussion of production related problems
(delegates will be encouraged to submit questions in advance)
Who should attend?
This course will help people with between 1 and 3 years' experience in a
technical or non-technical role, who wish to improve their knowledge of
technology used within production workflows.
