Portal Service Manager
Institutional portals are currently under development in a number of HE institutions in both the UK and the US. In 2005, the University of Leeds elected to adopt use of SunGard's Luminis portal in order to provide a seamless web environment to support all aspects of University life. The University now has an exciting opportunity to build a unified digital campus - by aligning our technical infrastructure with the strategic goals of the institution - linking together people, systems and communities, as well as enabling the alignment of IT systems with academic and administrative processes.
The University's Portal Steering Group has recommended that a single portal infrastructure is used to deliver both a student and a staff portal, encompassing a variety of different roles and activities within those two broad categories. The portal can provide highly tailored information and services to different users depending on their role, and it is capable of providing the platform for the development of a full institution-wide portal.
The first implementation phase included delivery of a Student Portal - which was successfully launched in 2006. A project team has been brought together across the Library and Information Systems Services in order to deliver the Student Portal. The 'Student Portal' is now being established as a service and there are emerging plans to create new portal 'roles' in the near future.
The Portal Service Team Leader will be key to the continuing development and embedding of the Portal in the University. You should have substantial experience of portal and/or other virtual/web environments, along with a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of national and international developments. With experience of staff, project and budget management, you will be able to negotiate with and influence key colleagues, and have a proactive approach to service provision.
Grade: University of Leeds 8 (£33,779 - £40,335).
