This practical workshop aims to get beyond the hype and show what blogs, wikis and other social software tools can do for you, whether you are a publisher or consumer of web-based information.
Topics covered during this workshop include:
The changing ethos of blogging, and its potential applications
Creating, enhancing and managing blogs
The emergence of other social software tools such as wikis, MySpace and mashups
Real-life examples of the technologies in action
Advantages and pitfalls of these technologies
2. Surviving Web Overload, 13th September

Are you drowning in information and wasting too much time trying to keep up? This workshop introduces a range of tools to help make the web work for you.
Topics covered during this workshop include:
Personalised sites and search tools, including sites for sharing information
Tools to keep up to date, including RSS, podcasting, alerting services and page trackers
Customising web browsers, including Firefox and Firefox extensions Desktop search tools
Personal life management tools, such as calendars and scheduling tools
