For research papers, I'd like to mention the Scholarly Works Application
Profile:
http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/repositories/digirep/index/Eprints_Application_Profile
This has been developed based on FRBR, specifically to describe research
papers.
JISC is also planning to fund work on simple profiles for images,
time-based media and geospatial data.
