That is exactly why I felt supportive of the GP concerned and why I
thought this consultant who made quite a mountain out of it was ... misguided.

Mildly raised ferritins are often (apparently) associated with
somewhat raised alcohol intake, and there is also the question about
whether haemochromatosis trait may have some effect, both on ferritin
and mortality. This was being researched I think, but I don't know
the outcome.
