the bit about being cut up for the vultures originated in the high himalaya,
supposedly it represents the body being carried to the afterlife but in
reality it was done becos cremation uses loads of wood and burial is
difficult in impoverished, thin and often forzen soil.
this sort of question could get sensitive fingers burnt and lead to ashes in
the originators mouth, but i dont want to stoke the flames of religious
sentiment.
