Dear All
I would like to ask you to complete a survey. The survey results will form
part of my dissertation 'UK Local Government. Can FOSS be considered a
viable option for web-based GIS?'. The dissertation will be submitted in
October 2007 in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of
Master of Science in GIS, The Manchester Metropolitan University (UNIGIS).
The survey is attached as a Word document.
The purpose of this survey is to investigate what are the barriers (if
any) to the introduction of GIS Open Source Software (OSS) within UK Local
Government.
The survey is designed for people who are involved or have been involved
in the use or management of GIS within UK Local Government. This will
include current employees, past employees and members of organisations who
have worked with Local Authorities as partners (e.g. software suppliers,
GIS consultants, other public sector organisations).
If you do not fit into any of the categories above but feel your
experiences would still relate to the issues discussed, your response
would be welcome.
If you have not heard of Open Source Software, the survey will be very
short. Please do still complete the survey as your response is equally
important as those who have knowledge of Open Source software. Otherwise
the survey will take between 10 and 15 minutes.
Any direct quotation that is done without explicit permission from the
respondent will be anonymous and done in such a way as not to identify the
individual or the organisation. Named quotes will only be used with the
prior consent of the respondent. If the respondent has not given an e-mail
address, this will be taken as not giving consent for named quotation.
Thank you to all that are able to give the time to complete and return the
survey.
Kind Regards
John Roberts
