Public radio program is looking for scholars' insights into impact of
the "race for space"
I'm writing on behalf of Weekend America
<http://weekendamerica.publicradio.org/?refid=6> , a weekly two-hour
public radio program.
We present news and cultural reporting animated by insightful commentary
and knowledgeable storytelling. In anticipation of the 50th anniversary
of Sputnik's launch, we're producing a feature on the technological and
cultural impact of the event that propelled the Cold War into the Space
Age. To help us tell the story, we're looking for people who want to
share their memories of Sputnik's launch or tell us about the
significance of the subsequent race for space as they've experienced it.
We're asking organizations of scientists, educators and scholars of
Russian language and culture to announce this project to their
membership. We'd like to hear and air personal stories about the
massive shift in the nation's focus and the impact Sputnik had on
careers, memories, science, or ways of thinking about the world and its
future.
We've created a webpage where AAASS members can tell us about their
experience:
http://americanpublicmedia.publicradio.org/pin/sputnik
We're hoping that you could direct your supporters to the site above
through an announcement in NewsNet or an AAASS listserve.
We're trying to move very quickly on this project. I hope to talk to
you about it some time early this week. If your answer is a firm no,
just email me to let me know.
Thanks for your consideration. Best,
Lea Coon
