RE: Art Brut Education Kit launch – http://www.artbrutedu.exhibit905.info
Hello Drawing Reserach Networkers,
I wish to pass this onto you. As you will see below it is a kit I put
together recently and part of it is now online for review. I hope it might
be a useful resource for teachers of the visual arts who are not familiar
or to re-familiarize teachers about Art Singulier, Art Brut, Raw Art,
et.al.
A letter of introduction and purpose is below.
Thank you,
Lesa Moriarity

Dear President, Executive Director, Educator,
I am pleased to invite you to the new online art brut education resource:
Art Brut Education Kit, Grades 9 - 12. The development of my Art Brut
Education Kit is the result of my Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), Queen’s
University, Canada, 2007. My research experience and visual arts
experience were gained in 2000, Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.), Emily Carr
Institute of Art & Design, Vancouver, Cdn. I received my Masters degree
(M.A.) Feminism and the Visual Arts, University of Leeds, Leeds, England,
2003.
My B.Ed. studies and practicum took me to Paris and Lausanne during March
& April, 2007. I spoke with staff and visited the Musee d’Art Brut Halle
St.Pierre, Jean Dubuffet Foundation, the Collection Art Brut Lausanne, and
other private galleries. While in Paris I found the development of the kit
would be a welcome addition. There are few, if any, Art Brut resources for
secondary school levels.
My main objective was to provide educators in schools with tools to create
an inclusive classroom, and educational environment. When I gathered
material, including various points of view, and wrote material, the kit
was geared to Canadian, the province of Ontario’s, Visual Arts Curriculum.
I believe the kit can be useful to organizations and galleries like yours,
around the world.
As you may have guessed, I also take a somewhat different view towards
official art and education in the visual arts in high school. Art Brut et
al. interests me very much, because it opens up the story of modern art. I
hope my approach interests you as well. In Toronto and Kingston, Ontario,
the Kit received feedback as a useful resource for teachers and students
in today’s schools.
I would be indebted to any feedback, adjustments, and comments you may
have. For instance, how, and why, is it useful for the activities of your
organization?
Sincerely,
Lesa Moriarity,
