Lancaster University Three Day Course
Ethics and Research with ‘Vulnerable’ Groups
September 17th – 19th (inclusive)
This three day event will run from 10.30 on September 17th to 1.00 p.m on
September 19th. It will draw on the expertise of a range of research
active people whose sessions will explore questions of vulnerability
within research with particular reference to particular minority and
marginalised groups.
Sessions will focus around a series of key themes outlined below:
• What do we mean by vulnerable groups – setting the scene.
• From Risk Avoidance to an Ethics of Care
• Research with Asylum Seekers and Survivors of Violence
• Research with Older People and Family Carers
• Research with Children
• Research with Religious Minorities
• Research with the terminally ill
• Research with Disabled People
• Research with Gay and Lesbian Groups
Where possible, the event will aim to ensure that representatives from so-
called ‘vulnerable’ groups are involved in the delivery of individual
sessions.
